For Immortals

Kallisti is a friendly and supportive environment where you can have fun. Players help one another and volunteers offer to do whatever work needs taken care of. Special access is sometimes necessary to complete this work. People with special access are referred to as Immortals. The tools and information available to Immortals can provide an advantage over other players. As a result, this special access comes with the responsibility of only using it to help others in a way that is fair and equal to all.

Use of special access is logged; please don't abuse it. Abuse is considered a breach of trust. We cannot accept help from people we don't trust. Special access will be removed from those who aren't responsible enough to use it wisely.

  1. Volunteering

We welcome volunteers wanting to help support Kallisti. Send e-mail to kallistimud@gmail.com describing who you are, what skills you have, and how you'd like to help out. We'll compare this with current projects to see how we can best utilize your help and get back to you as soon as possible.

  2. Becoming and Immortal

We are very restrictive in terms of to whom we give Immortal access. First, it's possible to volunteer for many projects without needing special access. Second, there's an issue of limiting access to confidential game information. We're simply trying to maintain your chance to enjoy exploring the game and find things out on your own. This is one of the reasons why we typically wait and give Immortal access to people who have played the game for a while. We also wait, because we feel it's important to understand how everything works in order to be helpful.

If you want to become an Immortal, first volunteer and do some projects. Eventually you'll find projects needing special access.

  3. New Player (Newbie) Assistance

Helping new players to get started is considered appropriate, and it is also expected of you. Answer basic questions about how to play the game and guide the player in the right direction. Make sure new players are familiar with the commands help, areas, and newbie.

  4. General Player Assistance

Always be as helpful as possible when approached by players for assistance. Listen when someone approaches you. Try to make sure you understand the problem and then see what you can do to be of assistance. If you are unable to help, help facilitate the process of finding someone who can help.

  5. Assistance Restriction

Providing players with anything other than basic information on how to play the game and access help is considered inappropriate. We want people to enjoy the challenge of exploring and learning about the game. Please don't spoil this, even if the player really wants you to, because you'll be giving them an unfair advantage.

In general, it is considered inappropriate to assist players by providing them with gold, healing, protective spells, experience points, or equipment. This is only considered appropriate when reimbursing players for losses caused by circumstances outside the Kallisti game environment. This includes game crashes, game bugs, or other similar extreme situations.

  6. Reimbursements

Players are entitled to a partial reimbursement for losses caused by circumstances outside of the Kallisti game environment, such as game crashes and game bugs. Our policy is to return items WORN at the time of loss. This excludes items carried in inventory. Players can request reimbursement by sending e-mail to kallistimud@gmail.com, including the name of the character, time and date of loss, and a brief description of what happened.

All reimbursements are at the discretion of Kallisti management. Some requests for reimbursement are denied. This is typically when the player is found to be at fault. For example, if a player loses equipment when they purposefully crash the game they will not be reimbursed.

  7. Non-Interference

We're here to help players and support the MUD. It's fun to socialize with people while logged into Immortal accounts. However, please limit the amount of interaction as much as possible. Some people will talk with you to be polite, even while feeling it's disruptive and annoying. It's best to focus on helping people and supporting the MUD. If you want to socialize, switch to a standard character account. Unless you're interfering for an administrative reason, stop immediately if someone asks you to do so.

  8. Dealing with Disruptive Behavior and Harassment

People causing problems usually do so for a reason. If it becomes necessary to intervene, start by clearly communicating who you are and that you're there to help. Find out what's going on and record as much information as possible. Other administrators may reference this information to help resolve the situation, so the accuracy and level of detail you collect will be of utmost importance. Encourage people to contact support or report their grievance directly to Administration.

If necessary, remind the player of relevant Kallisti rules and direct them to the this page on the web site for more information. Be specific in expressing which rules the player is breaking. Ask them to please adhere to the rules, because you'll be required to take action if necessary.

Always consult with other Immortals before taking action, if they are available. If other Immortals are not available and the problem is urgent, work toward neutralization until someone can be reached.

Situations like this can be highly confrontational. Always treat players with respect, even when they become abusive toward you. Encourage them to contact Immortals for help in resolving whatever problem they may have. Most importantly, explain which policies they are breaking and explain that it will be necessary to stop. If they don't, you'll need to freeze, mute, or otherwise lock their account to resolve the problem.

  9. Cheating

When cheating is reported or you notice something going on, monitor the situation and record as much information as possible. Once you have sufficient proof of cheating, contact the player. Announce whom you are and that you're contacting them because of apparent cheating. You should state which rules appear to be in violation, present why they are in violation, and ask the players to stop.

File a report of the incident by sending e-mail to support@lists.kallistimud.com. Include all of the information you have collected, so the situation can be reviewed. Players are also welcome to contest the report by sending email with their description of events to the same address. Kallisti's owners will review the situation and make a judgment.

Please keep in mind that situations like this can be highly confrontational. Treat players with respect, even if they become abusive toward you.

  10. Your Characters

Immortal access should never be used to help your own characters in any way. Reimbursements need to be performed by someone other than you. Breaking this rule results in immediate dismissal from the Immortal team, as well as deletion of all characters involved.

  11. Character Lending

Never, under any circumstance, allow someone else to use one of your characters for any reason.

  12. Dual Connection (Mortal and Immortal)

Players cannot have more than one simultaneous connection to the MUD. Immortals are allowed two simultaneous connections for the sole purpose of helping players and supporting the MUD.

  13. Inactivity Demotion

If you are not currently involved you will be demoted. For security reasons and to make positions available to new people, if you are not active for some time then you will gradually lose Immortal levels. These can be earned back fairly quickly simply by becoming involved again, but do not expect to be able to sit on past accomplishments to support your current level. New people want to be promoted - we don't want a top-heavy staff with half-active Immortals in the administration. Please do not take it as a personal insult if your level is lowered. It will be done off-line in most cases and again, your levels can be earned back if you are willing to take an active role again. Duration of "inactivity" before demotion will vary based on old level, previously assigned and completed tasks, and level of inactivity.

  14. Administrative Support

Please send e-mail to kallistimud@gmail.com and express any questions or concerns you might have. We will do our best to listen to what you have to say. If you're expecting us to take action on something, please clarify what it is that you'd like us to do. That way we can focus on helping you as much as possible.
